Carbon Market Workshops

These are live, guided sessions where I walk you and your team through how a carbon market actually works, using the Prometheus simulator with worked examples. Instead of slides, we open a real market and I explain each part as it moves.

What a workshop looks like

We run a live game in the simulator and I narrate it as it happens. You see allowances being allocated, firms deciding whether to abate or buy, a price forming from real orders, and compliance arriving at the end of the period. As each piece moves I stop and explain what is happening and why, in plain language, with examples drawn from real schemes. By the end you have watched a carbon market behave rather than just read about one.

The session is tailored to your level. A group new to the topic gets the fundamentals built up slowly. A group that already knows the basics can go straight to the harder questions: how intensity benchmarks behave under growth, why prices move, how design choices change firm behaviour.

Who it is for

  • Teams and organisations new to emissions trading
  • Policy and regulatory staff preparing for or studying a scheme
  • Industry and compliance teams that will operate under a carbon market
  • University groups and students
  • Anyone who wants carbon markets explained clearly and quickly

What you will take away

  • An intuitive grasp of how an emissions trading system behaves
  • The core decision every firm faces: abate or buy
  • Why the carbon price moves the way it does
  • The difference between intensity-based and absolute markets
  • How all of this maps onto real systems, including India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme

Format

  • Online by default. In-person on request, location permitting.
  • Typical length: about 90 minutes.
  • Small groups, so there is room for questions.
  • Content adjusted to your background and what you want to focus on.

Pricing

The simulator is free, and it stays free. Anyone can open it and run a market on their own at no cost.

The workshop is for people who want it explained and guided. I keep the price deliberately low, under $10 per person, to cover hosting and running costs rather than to make a profit. Most structured carbon market training runs as expensive institutional sessions. This is not that.

How to book

Email hipromets@gmail.com with your group size, rough level of experience, and what you would most like to understand. I will reply with available times and confirm the details.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any background to join? No. Sessions are tailored to the group, including people who are completely new to carbon markets.

Is the simulator itself paid? No. Prometheus is free to use on your own. The workshop is an optional guided session.

Can the workshop be tailored to a specific scheme? Yes. Sessions can focus on the design that matters to you, such as an intensity-based market like India's CCTS or an absolute cap-and-trade system.

How many people can join one session? Sessions are kept small enough for questions. Email with your group size and we can work out the best format.
